Two auto recyclers were given the honor of given ARA Lifetime Achievement Awards. Gary Beagell, of Gary’s U-Pull-It, Inc. in Binghamton, N.Y. and Paul Davis, of A-Plus Parts & Salvage, Inc. in Wichita, Kan., received the awards at the 72nd ARA Annual Convention and Exposition in Charlotte, N.C. on Oct. 9, 2015.
Beagell grew up working at the family business and married his wife Linda in 1970, after which they opened up several businesses, including Gary’s U-Pull-It in 1979. Over thirty years later, Gary’s U-Pull-It has expanded from a small self-service automotive recycling center to a mature facility, recycling 11,000 vehicles per year, keeping the community free of unwanted vehicles and providing quality used auto parts at affordable prices.
Beagell is a pioneer in recycling technology. He holds patents in automotive fluid management systems and has developed yard management software. He currently is a director of Fenix Parts, Inc., a business that owns full- and self-service professional automotive recycling yards in the United States and Canada. Beagell was twice president of the Automotive Recyclers Association of New York and also served as president of ARA in 2007.
Davis is past president of the Kansas Automotive Recyclers Association, ARA Regional Director and longtime industry advocate. Davis and his wife Darlene ran A-Plus Parts & Salvage for 35 years.
Davis was as the ARA Regional Director for Region 7, representing Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota, and also received the ARA Regional Director of the Year award. He served as a voice for many professional automotive recyclers in the central plains states and is well respected within the industry for his knowledge, insight and thoughtful opinions on the trends and issues impacting the day-to-day operations of auto recycling businesses, for his keen political analysis and his willingness to give back to the association and auto recycling community.
He also is very active in his home state, serving on the Kansas Dealer Review Board for almost four years representing the Kansas Salvage Vehicle Dealers and appointed by Governor Brownback in 2012. In addition he is an appointed member of the District III Wichita Council Advisory Board which is responsible for preserving the assets and natural resources of the city.
ARA is proud to welcome both Beagell and Davis into the ranks of the Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award recipients and is deeply appreciative of their significant contributions to the association and to the professional automotive recycling industry.
