ARA Hands Out Recycler Awards At Annual Convention
The Automotive Recyclers Association (ARA) recently acknowledged several members of the auto recycling community at its 2013 convention in Phoenix, Ariz.
Affiliate Chapter Of The Year
The Ohio Auto & Truck Recyclers Association (OATRA.net), headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, was awarded the “2013 Affiliate Chapter of the Year” award. This honors an affiliated chapter of ARA that has shown exemplary dedication to the industry through its service and work on behalf of its members and the association.
Chris Wright, now the immediate Past President of ARA, and owner of Capital Auto Parts, Inc. located in Thomasville, Ga., said, “Under the leadership of President Jim McKinney, the Ohio Auto & Truck Recyclers Association (OATRA) works continuously to ensure a fair and competitive business climate in Ohio for all of its members. The strong constituent relationships that OATRA members have with their elected officials, has resulted in positive working relationships with state lawmakers, consumer advocacy groups, regulatory agencies, and other key stakeholders.”
There are approximately 670 licensed salvage dealers in Ohio, which is about 12 percent of automotive recyclers in the United States.

Auto Parts City, in Gurnee, Ill., was awarded “2013 CAR Member of the Year.” The award honors an ARA member business that has shown exemplary dedication to the industry and the Certified Automotive Recycler (CAR) program. The CAR program was created to produce a set of standards for general business practices as well as environmental and safety issues, and to provide guidance for member facilities in adhering to these standards. This program is one of the cornerstones of the association.
