Experts in the field of cyber security believe there are two kinds of business owners in the world - the smart ones who know they have been victimized by a cyber-threat or crime, and the remainder who do not realize it. If you are a small business owner, it is not a matter of if you will be victimized; it is a matter of when. Is your small business prepared for the inevitable?

Northlake Auto Recyclers, Inc. doesn’t see a lot of retail traffic in its location in Hammond, Ind. That’s a shame, because customers are missing out on all of the updates and improvements that owner Marty Hollingshead has made in recent years.

General Motors (GM) is making moves to correct a multi-million vehicle mistake by buying back recalled ignition switches from auto recyclers. The company has hired Rebuilders Automotive Supply (RAS) to facilitate the purchases. RAS sent a letter to auto recyclers in late August that outlines the plan.

David Gold has many roles: business owner, innovator, writer … now he can add future ARA president to the list. Gold will officially join ARA’s Executive Committee as secretary at ARA’s annual convention on October 25. He will serve on the committee for five years, eventually becoming ARA president.

Over 3,000,000 hybrids and 250,000 plug-in cars have been sold in the United States since December 1999. You will need to get ready to sell the parts off these high tech, gas / electric autos and SUVs. Maybe you have taken a hybrid class, maybe not, but one thing is for sure, hybrids and electric cars are here to stay.

It’s not every day that someone can see exactly where and how their charitable donations are spent. But that’s exactly what Iowa auto recyclers were able to experience at the 2014 Iowa Auto Recyclers (IAR) Summer Outing. A Charitable Chariots vehicle was presented to a deserving family at Quandt Auto Salvage, Inc., the Carroll, Iowa host facility, on June 14, 2014.

Running a business is enough for most people. But Ricky Oneil Young isn’t like most. The second-generation recycler manages six used parts locations and four vehicle buying locations for his family business, Young’s Auto Center & Salvage in North Carolina. He also is extremely active in his community, earning the coveted “Citizen of the Year” award for his efforts. As if that’s not enough, he is a driving force in the industry, having served as past president of Carolina Auto Recyclers (CAR) and for the NC Auto and Truck Salvage Dealers Association.

Gary Coln always strives to learn more. Whether it’s figuring out how to improve sales numbers, employee relations or quality control at his Savannah, Tenn.-business, Raceway Auto & Truck Parts, Gary is never satisfied to just sit still. That’s one reason why he is the Locator UpFront’s 2014 Boss of the Year.

When it comes to running an auto recycling business in a town that has sprung up all around you, the rules of kids’ games like “I was here first!” do not apply.
