John Harty

Each day, Noreen Harty takes orders, packages them up and ships them out. It may seem like a normal process — with one exception. There’s no technology at all at her family’s business, John Harty Tools in Barre, Mass. That means no email, no website and no credit card machine. Orders are processed C.O.D. the old-fashioned way - the way they’ve been done since the business started back in the late 1950s.

Let’s Talk Recalls

There is a lot of “fake news” relative to the airbag recalls and in many cases auto recyclers are not recovering them. There are three main reasons why auto recyclers should remove defective airbags.

Plastics Parts

With plastic playing a bigger role in vehicle design, due to its ability to improve safety, comfort and reducing emissions, more plastic parts end up being thrown away. In fact, very few plastic parts are recycled. The Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS) set out to see if plastic parts could also be as viably-recycled as metal parts. To do this, the association created the End-of-Life Vehicle (ELV) Recycling Demonstration Project.

Since 1956

Some auto recyclers find success by specializing and cornering a small niche. Johnson’s Auto Wrecking has found success by taking exactly the opposite approach.

Packaging Prowess

I have been working in the shipping and logistics arena for nearly 20 years now – long enough to know that every day brings a new challenge and that I have NOT yet seen and heard it all.

135 Auto

With just six cars on opening day, and 35 acres of land, Stanley Kingsley had a lot of ground to cover. It would take a little while, but with hard work, perseverance and a family that stood behind him - and ultimately staffed the business - 135 Auto in Mauckport, Ind. would grow to be a family legacy. Today, it’s one of the largest auto recycling yards in Indiana and involves three generations.
