Marty Hollingshead, Northlake Auto Recyclers, Inc., Indiana

When you see Northlake Auto Recyclers, Inc., in Hammond, Ind., you can tell right away the business is a labor of love for owner Marty Hollingshead. He bought the business 25 years ago, after working there one year. Since then, he has made numerous aesthetic improvements. Hollingshead handcrafted all of the woodwork in the office, built a hockey rink in the back and overhauled the facility's landscaping.

But Hollingshead focuses on the function of his facility as much as the form. He is environmentally responsible and maintains an organized business. In 2009, Northlake Auto Recyclers received recognition as one of the first Indiana Clean Yard - Gold Level facilities in the state by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM).

"Marty and his staff have helped us find ways to improve our process while still protecting the environment," explained Kelly Kerlin, Car Recyclers, Inc. in North Manchester, Ind. "Anytime we have a question or need advice, we can always get answers from them. Northlake receiving the IDEM Clean Yard - Gold has been inspiring to all salvage yards in Indiana."

"Marty has a fabulous facility," added Locator Sales Representative Cindy VanAuken. "He just completely revamped the top floor of a 20,000-square-foot warehouse. He put in insulation, glass block windows and energy-efficient lighting."
