Paul D'Adamo was most influential local hero of 2005, environmentalist of 2006, teacher of 2008, an ARA industry trendsetter in 2009 and is president of Bill's Auto Parts in Cumberland, R.I. (BillsAutoParts.com) and president of the ARARI (ARARI.org). But just because D'Adamo has won all of these awards, it doesn't mean he's slowed down.

It took 20 years to become a reality, but Auto Parts City, Inc. in Gurnee,. was worth the wait. Brothers Larry Brosten and Jay Brosten opened their 21st century auto recycling facility in 2010. The complex is heated with recycled oil, operates with natural lighting, uses sophisticated drainage systems, employs an electrical crusher and functions with low-flow plumbing.

Promotion of one's business requires dedication, persistence and a positive outlook. For 15 years, Mark Oquisanti has brought tens of thousands of potential customers to his business, Mark's Auto Parts & Recyclers, Inc. in East Granby, Conn. (Marks-AutoParts.com), with a summer-long "Mark's Classic Cruise" event.

Most Influential Local Hero

The firefighters who regularly train on vehicles at Pacific Auto Salvage, Inc. in American Canyon, Calif. (PacificAutoSalvage.com) are often called heroes. But owner F. John Azevedo may also deserve the title. As a highly respected auto recycler, he has given back to the community.

Most Influential Lawmaker

In 2009, Texas finally recognized its state auto recycling industry with its own department, thanks in large part to Bruce Ormand, vice president of A1 Partsmart in Austin, Texas (A1Partsmart.com) and chair of the Texas Automotive Recyclers Association (TARA) legislative committee.

Most Influential Innovator

The cold winter months in Joliet, Ill. make it difficult to draw customers out to pull auto parts. Sean Krause, owner of Speedway Auto Parts, Ltd. (SpeedwayAP.com), found a way to make the experience a bit more comfortable for do-it-yourselfers.

Most Influential Under 25

A fourth-generation auto recycler, Jake Weller has always been surrounded by mentors, like his father Skip Weller, most influential teacher of 2005. He combines the knowledge he has picked up from them with his own ideals to bolster the family business, Weller Auto Parts, Inc. in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Most Influential Outside The USA

Auto recycling contains no borders for Derek Covey, owner of Covey's Auto Recyclers Ltd. in Blandford, Nova Scotia (Coveys.com). He is active at every industry level. He is the president of the Automotive Recyclers Association of Atlantic Canada (ARAAC.ca), an Automotive Recyclers of Canada (ARC) board member and ARA member.

Natural Leaders

In 2005, Locator UpFront made history, dedicating an entire issue to the industry's most influential auto recyclers. Today, the list has become an annual tradition, recognizing more than 100 auto recyclers from all across the United States and abroad during its six-year history.

Nick Reitman is busy. He is a salesperson and a parts consultant for his family's business, Reitman Auto Parts in Melbourne, Ky. (ReitmanAutoParts.com). He regularly attends industry events and just finished his term as president of the local Alexandria Community Business Association (AlexandriACBA.org).
