The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines an entrepreneur as one who organizes, manages and assumes the risk of the business. Ted Smith, president of Team Truck Dismantling, Inc. (HillsideAutoSalvage.com) in Riverside, Calif., is all of this. In 31 years his business increased from one-acre to six facilities at three locations. Each location is full- and self-service and extra space is either rented to complimentary businesses, like auto glass installers and salvage pools, or used for side projects.
"Ted had a terrible motorcycle accident last spring," said executive assistant Stacey Ramey. "Because of our dedication to him and the company we all just stepped up and took care of business. To me, that speaks a lot about Ted."
"Ted Smith is a very strong and dedicated person," said Jenn Collison, Locator Sales Representative. "He went from almost losing his life in a motorcycle accident in April, to attending the State of California Auto Dismantlers Association (SCADA) Convention in September."
Smith is president of SCADA (SCADA1.com) and was named its 2010 dismantler of the year. "Before his accident, he traveled the state trying to meet with every chapter in SCADA," said F. John Azevedo, Pacific Auto Salvage, Inc., American Canyon, Calif. (PacificAutoSalvage.com). "He comes up with creative ways to encourage and help with new membership to SCADA."
