Most Influential Facility

Scott Bosgraaf, Auto Sports Unlimited, Michigan

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but not in the case of the 240,000-square-foot headquarters of Auto Sports Unlimited in Zeeland, Mich. (

"I visited Auto Sports Unlimited this year at the Automotive Recyclers of Michigan (ARM) Road Show," said Cindy VanAuken of The Locator. "Had I not seen the facility myself, I'm not sure I would have believed it. You just don't get the mammoth feel of it until you are physically there."

The headquarters is actually an old industrial building, the former location for a garment hanger manufacturer. Owner Scott Bosgraaf purchased the site to consolidate operations, which previously had been in 11 separate buildings within a two-block radius. There's also a remote location, about six miles away, where parts and vehicles are processed.

"We attended the ARM Road Show this spring," said Bob Johnson of Foreign Auto Salvage, Inc. in Fort Wright, Ky. ( "I was so impressed with the entire operation. It is very well organized, while maintaining a green environment and operating successfully."

Johnson also credited Bosgraaf's leadership and commitment to the auto recycling industry.

"By allowing his fellow auto recyclers a chance to see the inside workings of a very well-run operation, Scott also opened up to them the knowledge he has in the salvage industry."
