BEST EFFORT

When I first opened my business at the bright-eyed and bushytailed age of 27, I had big dreams about quality control. I remember telling my wife, “I’m going to have an entire work station with bright lights, polishers, waxes, wire brushes, sand paper, paint, primer, window cleaner, solvent, cotton rags, etc. and not one of my parts is going to go out without being thoroughly inspected and detailed to the nines!”When I first opened my business at the bright-eyed and bushytailed age of 27, I had big dreams about quality control. ON AIR

The Under The Hood Show has been going strong for 22 years. The weekly radio broadcast, created by the Nordstrom family of Nordstrom’s Automotive, Inc., in Garretson, S.D., and hosted by the Motor Medics Shannon Nordstrom and Russ “The Super Tech” Evans along with radio personality Chris Carter, advises listeners on vehicle problems. It’s entertaining format has caught on with stations nationwide.

AMERICAN DREAM

The building at Sambucci Bros., Inc., in Flushing, N.Y., is so nice that sometimes customers drive right by it. That’s despite its brightly lit signage - four-foot letters displayed prominently on three sides of the brick and glass building.

BIG CHANGES

Big changes are underway at Highway Auto Parts in Roseville, Mich. It has been under new ownership since May 2012. The current owners and managers - most of them industry veterans with decades of experience - plan to completely overhaul the 50-year-old automotive recycling facility, bring it up to date and transform it into the premier auto parts supplier to the Detroit metropolitan area.

BIG MOVE

Amber Elenbaas has no doubts that she’s a true auto recycler. She first realized it one freezing night when her shipping department nearly became an ice rink.

LEG UP

When Sandy Blalock assumed the ARA presidency in 2007 she told the Locator UpFront that her goal was to be a leader that promoted and represented the industry well. Blalock didn’t leave that ideology behind with her presidential term.

YARD RESTORED

Scott Cook bought his first car when he was just 14. But that’s okay, because the 1967 Cadillac El Dorado wasn’t ready to be driven.

If you have never been on Pinterest, chances are you know someone who has. Pinterest, the invite-only social media site, is the fastest growing social media site in history. It grows an average of 400 percent - per month - and currently boasts 10.4 million users.
