KSI Trading Corporation is a nationwide aftermarket auto parts supplier. The company is headquartered in South Plainfield, N.J., and has more than 23 locations across the eastern United States.
In roughly 25 years, the company has grown into a $100 million dollar business that employs more than 400 workers. It has a fleet of delivery vehicles and warehouses placed strategically across the country for accurate, quick delivery.
Wayne Jan and Nelson Roger founded the company in 1984. It was a small start-up in Long Island, N.Y. that focused on aftermarket crash parts. Jan and Roger began to open branches as early as 1987.
Today, KSI Trading Corporation has a presence in 13 states, with a heavy concentration of branches on the east coast. There are KSI Trading Corporation locations in Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Virginia. There are also branches in the Midwest, including Illinois and Michigan, and most recently, the company has expanded into the southern United States with branches in Florida and Georgia.
Richard Kaslovsky, the company’s sales manager, said the growth is due to the company’s philosophy.
Most recently, KSI Trading Corporation has continued its commitment to excellence by becoming ISO 9001 certified.
“There are public companies in our industry with ISO 9001 certification,” said Kaslovsky. “But it’s very unusual for private companies to carry one. We’re one of the few.”
The ISO 9001 certification means that KSI Trading Corporation has been evaluated by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO.org) and found to be meeting industry standards for quality management. In short, the company is monitoring processes, keeping records, reviewing for quality and effectiveness and striving for continual improvement.
“There was a lot of paperwork involved in applying for certification,” explained Kaslovsky. “The process takes about a year and includes an audit of the business. But we felt the effort was important. The ISO certification reflects our company philosophy. We don’t just strive to meet customer expectations. We work to exceed them. We do that by selling quality parts at a fair price and delivering to our valued customers on time, every time.”
KSI Trading Corporation deals directly with body shops and warehouse distributors. The business does not have walk-in customers. It has been built via strong word of mouth, and current buyers are primarily repeat customers, according to Kaslovsky, who has been with KSI Trading Corporation since it was formed.
Kaslovsky said the company’s web site has not played a major role in drawing business. But it’s helped more people learn about the company.
“It has helped more people to learn about us,” he added. “But it’s not a majority of our business.”
Networking, however, is a major focus. The company is a member of many industry associations related to auto body parts - QRP-Midwest (QRPMW.com), the Auto Body Parts Association (AutoBPA.com), Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA.org) and the Quality Parts Coalition (QualityPartsCoalition.com).
As for the future, it’s likely to be more of the same, which Kaslovsky considers good for the company.
“We want to continue to serve our customers and exceed expectations,” he added. “That is how we’ll continue to grow.”
