ARA and ARC Sent Joint Letter on Import of Automobiles and Parts

The Automotive Recyclers Association (ARA) and the Automotive Recyclers of Canada (ARC) submitted a joint letter to the U.S. Department of Commerce on July 13, 2018 regarding the Federal Government’s national security investigation of imports of automobiles and automobile parts. The joint letter expressed concerns with potential unintended consequences on the automotive parts industry that far exceed any relevance to the issue of national security.

The letter highlighted that the automotive supply chain is especially global and integrated in nature, with components manufactured, sold, re-sold and remanufactured around the world. ARA and ARC both believe the imposition of tariffs on imported used automotive parts could have a deleterious impact on their member companies, their consumers, small businesses and the environment on both sides of the U.S./Canada border.
