Action Auto Parts Reopens After Tornado Damage

On July 19, 2018 a tornado ripped through Marshalltown, Iowa, destroying homes and businesses in its path, including Action Auto Parts. The Iowa Automotive Recyclers (IAR) association shared news from Action Auto Parts Owner David Hesmer that he is working with what he has to continue to keep the doors open.

“I am sure we will be leaning on our friends in the auto recycling industry to make it through this difficult time! Our buildings are all but destroyed, but we were able to save our computers and data,” he stated. “The cars in the yard, many are still okay. Some did not fare so well.”

A pair of EF-3 tornadoes with wind speeds that reached 144 mph swept through Marshalltown and Pella, Iowa while an EF-2 tornado struck Bondurant, Iowa. The Marshalltown and Pella and twisters were the strongest to hit Iowa since June 2015.

Hesmer promised to keep selling his parts and do everything he can to get them out on time, in spite of the damage the tornado caused.

“We will be using our trading partners as much as we can to help the other victims in Marshalltown that lost door glasses, tail lights, etc., from the tornado. This is a devastating time, but we are hard workers and we will get through as best as we can.”
